On communicating this decision to Mr Price who had just returned to the Colony, he at once stated that as he had never drawn these forfees for his own use, reasons which I am sure that Her Majesty's Government will appreciate, and that, as he was not likely to abandon the views held by him on subject, he was quite willing that the prohibition to draw such fees which Lord Kimberley directed to be enforced when the office of Surveyor-General became vacant should at once be carried out. I annex for reference a copy of his letter on the subject.
